简介：所谓对经“Antiphon”指在诗篇或圣颂（如尊主颂、皆来颂等）前后重复颂唱的短颂歌，而安立甘圣乐中的种类之一颂歌（Anthem），在中古时代的英语中即是“Antiphon”的同义词，虽然现在颂歌所指者，常常与拉丁经文歌（Motet）混用了。西方教会传统上，在将临期的后半段日子，会使用一系列称为“将临期大对经”（Great Antiphons）或“O对经”（O Antiphons）的特用对经，这些对经一般以素歌第二调式（Mode ii）来诵唱在晚祷中，并用至圣诞前夜的前一日（即12月23日）。
在中古时代的英格兰，将临期大对经共有八个，由12月16日开始使用，并在12月23日使用第八首对经“哦，童贞中的童贞”（O Virgo virginum），这些对经的首字母倒序，组成一个拉丁词组Vero cras，意为“就是明日”，而在英格兰之外的罗马礼中，则无“O Virgo virginum”这一对经，故罗马日历中大对经是自12月17日开始的，共有七首。
英格兰宗教改革后，虽《公祷书》中并未明文收录这中古时代的八个对经，但在《公祷书》中的日历上，依然照旧在12月16日这一天，以拉丁文标注了O Sapientia（哦智慧），即第一大对经开始的日子，而伊丽莎白一世亦命令准许在礼仪中，增添使用祷书额外的颂歌。
此处将这八首颂歌译为中文，以供有兴趣者参考之。
另外，著名的圣诗“以马内利来临歌”，也是依据将临期大对经，由John Mason Neale化写为英语，并因之配上一法国古乐，而广为流传世界的，不过J.M. Neale虽是英国圣公会的牧师，但其版本并未包含英国特色之O Virgo virginum。这首圣诗的六节中文本曾由杨荫浏先生翻译，列在了1936年初版的《普天颂赞》中的第78首。
